Co-Amoxiclav
Common use
Co-Amoxiclav is used to treat bacterial infections such as sinusitis, respiratory tract infections, urinary
tract
infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections. Co-Amoxiclav is also used to treat skin,
soft tissues, bone and joint infections and dental cavities. Co-Amoxiclav tablet also prevents bacterial growth and
aids in symptom and pain relief. This medicine is not effective against viral infections like colds and flu.
Dosage and direction
Co-Amoxiclav should be taken as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Avoid taking tablet on an empty
stomach.
Do not crush or chew tablet. Consume the tablet with a glass of water.
Precautions
Co-Amoxiclav can interact with diseases, including: Liver disease; Glandular fever; Colitis. Consult with your
doctor.
Contraindications
Co-Amoxiclav is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin, Clavulanic Acid
or
other cephalosporin antibiotics. It is also contraindicated in patients with history of jaundice or hepatic
dysfunction.
Possible side effect
Below are some common side effects of Co-Amoxiclav: Vomiting: Initial side effect is vomiting as the components
may induce it; Nausea: Patients may feel nauseous while taking the Co-Amoxiclav tablet; Diarrhea: Vomiting may be
accompanied by diarrhea after consuming the tablet; Mucocutaneous candidiasis: The components of Co-Amoxiclav may
cause candidiasis bacteria to multiply.
Drug interaction
Co-Amoxiclav can interact with medications, including: Allopurinol; Probenecid; Blood thinners (warfarin);
Anticancer, or anti-arthritis drug (methotrexate); Estrogen / Progesterone contraceptive.
Missed dose
If you forgot to take Co-Amoxiclav tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is
close, skipping the missed one is recommended now and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage
without consulting your doctor.
Overdose
If you or someone else takes an excessive amount of Co-Amoxiclav by accident, it is essential to take immediate
medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include vomiting, nausea, and
diarrhea.
Storage
Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC). Protect it from light and moisture. Keep Co-Amoxiclav away
from children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.
