Common use

Ventodep ER tablet is used in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorder. It alters the chemicals in the brain that cause symptoms of anxiety such as irritability, restlessness, lack of concentration, fatigue, sweating, increased heart rate, and unwanted or racing thoughts.

Dosage and direction

Take this medication by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take it with food. Take your medication at regular intervals. Do not take your medication more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly except upon the advice of your doctor. Stopping this medication too quickly may cause serious side effects or your condition may worsen.

Precautions

Before taking Ventodep ER tablet, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your kidneys, heart, liver, or have a history of seizures (epilepsy or fits). Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or if you have any suicidal thoughts.

Contraindications

You doctor need to know if you have any of these conditions: Bleeding disorders; Glaucoma; Heart disease; High blood pressure; High cholesterol; Kidney disease; Liver disease; Low levels of sodium in the blood; Mania or bipolar disorder; Seizures; Suicidal thoughts, plans, or attempt; a previous suicide attempt by you or a family member; Take medications that treat or prevent blood clots; Thyroid disease; An unusual or allergic reaction to venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives; Pregnant or trying to get pregnant; Breast-feeding.

Possible side effect

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them. Common side effects of Ventodep ER: Nausea; Vomiting; Dizziness; Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping); Decreased appetite; Anxiety; Constipation; Increased sweating; Sexual dysfunction.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
Allergic reactions - skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Bleeding - bloody or black, tar-like stools, red or dark brown urine, vomiting blood or brown material that looks like coffee grounds, small, red or purple spots on skin, unusual bleeding or bruising
Heart rhythm changes - fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, chest pain, trouble breathing
Increase in blood pressure
Loss of appetite with weight loss
Low sodium level - muscle weakness, fatigue, dizziness, headache, confusion
Serotonin syndrome - irritability, confusion, fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle stiffness, twitching muscles, sweating, high fever, seizures, chills, vomiting, diarrhea
Sudden eye pain or change in vision such as blurry vision, seeing halos around lights, vision loss
Thoughts of suicide or self-harm, worsening mood, feelings of depression

Drug interaction

Do not take this medication with any of the following: Certain medications for fungal infections like fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole; Cisapride; Desvenlafaxine; Dronedarone; Duloxetine; Levomilnacipran; Linezolid; MAOIs like Carbex, Eldepryl, Marplan, Nardil, and Parnate; Methylene blue (injected into a vein); Milnacipran; Pimozide; Thioridazine.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Ventodep ER tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Storage

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Store at a controlled temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F), in a dry place. Throw away any unused medication after the expiration date.
