Common use
Temsujohn tablet is primarily used to manage the symptoms of a common condition in men known as benign
prostatic
hyperplasia (BPH). This medicine falls under a category of medications known as alpha-blockers. BPH causes the
prostate gland to enlarge, resulting in urination problems. In addition to its primary use, this medicine also helps
decrease the frequent or urgent need to urinate, including during the night. It assists in improving the initiation
of
urine flow and enhancing the strength of the urine stream.
Dosage and direction
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush or open the tablet. It's best to take this
medicine 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Do not increase the dose on your own; please consult your doctor.
Precautions
You're advised to limit alcohol intake while taking Temsujohn as it might increase the risk of dizziness and
lightheadedness.
For individuals with liver health issues, it's recommended to discuss with your doctor before starting
Temsujohn.
If you have any kidney problems, consultation with your doctor is advisable prior to using the Temsujohn
tablet.
Temsujohn tablet might cause dizziness or drowsiness. Until you know how this medication affects you, avoid
driving or operating machinery.
Older patients might be more susceptible to side effects of Temsujohn tablet and should take this medicine
under
medical supervision.
Contraindications
Low blood pressure: As Temsujohn lowers blood pressure, it should be used with caution in patients who already
have low blood pressure.
Prostate Cancer: Temsujohn tablet is not indicated for use in patients with prostate cancer, as it is primarily
used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Before starting Temsujohn, inform your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to Tamsulosin or other
alpha-blockers.
Temsujohn is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Always consult your doctor before
giving
any medicine to a child.
Possible side effect
Temsujohn may have the following side effects: Dizziness; Abnormal ejaculation: This can include a decrease in
the volume of ejaculation; Runny or stuffy nose; Headache; Weakness; Back pain; Diarrhoea.
Most common side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which resolve upon discontinuing the use of
Temsujohn. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult
your doctor.
Drug interaction
Temsujohn tablet interacts with the following medicines:
Alpha-blockers: The interaction with prazosin or terazosin can cause further lowering of blood pressure.
Erectile dysfunction medications: Medicines like sildenafil can intensify the blood pressure-lowering effects
of
Temsujohn tablet.
Antifungals: Interaction with itraconazole and ketoconazole may increase the concentration of Temsujohn tablet
in
your body, leading to increased side effects.
HIV protease inhibitors: Medicines like lopinavir and ritonavir can increase the blood levels of Temsujohn,
increasing the risk of side effects.
Antibiotics: Clarithromycin can slow down the removal of Temsujohn from your body, resulting in increased side
effects.
Missed dose
If you happen to forget a dose of Temsujohn, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for
your next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with your regular schedule. Never adjust your dosage without
consulting your doctor.
Overdose
In case you've taken more than the prescribed amount of Temsujohn, you may experience symptoms like severe
dizziness or fainting. If you notice such symptoms, it's advisable to call your doctor.
Storage
Store Temsujohn tablet at room temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight and
moisture. Always keep it out of sight and reach of children.
